Sherri L. Kaufman
COO/Director

Sherri L. Kaufman is the Chief Operating Officer/Director and founder of NSS. She is a results-oriented manager with more than 25 years experience in insurance claims and more than 15 years experience specializing in subrogation process improvement. She has lead subrogation programs that have recovered hundreds of millions of dollars for the insurance industry.

Ms. Kaufman created and led a multiline regional recovery unit for St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company. Under her management, revenues increased from $7 million to $17 million annually. She received Chairman’s Award nominations for customer service, diversity leadership and expense savings.

Ms. Kaufman has designed and delivered educational presentations on improving recovery recognition to claim units handling property, liability and workers’ compensation claims. She serves as an arbitration panelist for Arbitration Forums, Inc. She has served as both a liability adjuster and liability unit manager. She has managed complex litigation for both recovery and liability defense in such areas as medical malpractice, professional liability and construction claims. Prior to joining St. Paul, Ms. Kaufman held positions at Prudential Property and Casualty Insurance Company and General Accident Insurance Company.

Ms. Kaufman received a bachelor’s degree from the State University College at Buffalo, and a master’s degree in business administration from Adelphi University. She has continued her education through courses and seminars in presentation skills, training and development and management.

Gerard P. Nolan
Assistant Director

Gerard P. (Jerry) Nolan is a claim professional with more than 20 years experience and proven leadership abilities.

Mr. Nolan previously served as Assistant Vice President of Claim Recovery for Reliance National Insurance Company and as a recovery specialist for St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company. He has a comprehensive background in high-exposure recovery litigation including construction, products liability, medical malpractice, commercial property and workers’ compensation.

While at St. Paul, Mr. Nolan recovered more than $30 million, earning numerous service recognition awards. During his tenure at Reliance National, he developed procedures to improve recovery results, such as instituting an open and closed file review process. He has extensive experience investigating large commercial property and workers’ compensation losses, including loss scene investigations.

Prior to joining St. Paul, Mr. Nolan held positions in liability claims adjustment and claims supervision at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company and American International Adjustment Company.

Mr. Nolan received a bachelor’s degree in economics from St. John’s University. He has served as an arbitration panelist for Arbitration Forums, Inc. and continues his personal development through claim technical and management development seminars.
