NSS was formed in 2000 by the law firm of Cozen O’Connor and Sherri Kaufman. For more than 35 years, Cozen O’Connor has dedicated itself to maximizing subrogation recoveries on behalf of the insurance industry from legally responsible third-parties. The firm specializes in the investigation, pursuit and litigation of large and potentially complex recovery matters. NSS was designed to complement these services on matters where pursuit is needed, yet expenses must be carefully managed.

NSS specializes in the recovery of claims for losses under $100,000. Although recoveries on larger cases have the potential to contribute significant dollars, approximately 70 percent of actual returns are comprised of a large volume of smaller files. NSS supports your claim organization to ensure that all subrogation dollars are realized.

Cozen O’Connor has a subrogation and recovery program with virtually every major property and casualty underwriter in the U.S., as well as with many regional insurers and mutual companies and also represents reinsurers, self-insurers, insurance syndicates, third-party administrators, insurance brokers and agents, and independent adjustment companies. Cozen O’Connor’s National Subrogation Program is focused on providing timely and accurate investigation and analysis of large losses for subrogation and recovery potential, including on-site investigation, where appropriate.

In recent years, Cozen O’Connor has recovered in excess of $200 million annually for its subrogation clients. These recoveries arise from casualties such as fires, explosions, structural collapses, machinery and equipment failures, gas and water leaks and from a wide variety of nature-induced losses such as windstorms, earthquakes, floods and hurricanes. In addition to expertise and experience in handling property claims, we have expertise in the maritime, inland marine, workers’ compensation and environmental fields.
